Stunning 50ft cruising yacht found washed up on Cornwall beach after breaking free from its moorings

Local walker found the luxury boat lying on its side and it has remained there for more than a week

A STAR-crossed sailor faces a hefty bill after their luxury yacht broke free from its moorings and washed up on a Cornish beach.

The 50-foot-long, two-masted ketch called Christiana was found by walker Roy McBride in the picturesque Trebah Bay on Thursday.

He took pictures of the stricken vessel lying on its keel next to a slipway as it was being struck by waves.

The vessel is thought to have broken its moorings during recent high winds.

McBryde said: “I believe it was a visitor.

"There had been a strong wind blowing for the last few days - its moors broke and the yacht had been driven onto the beach."

He added: "It was a bit of a shock.

"You don't normally see a boat of that size washed up."

A spokesman for Falmouth coastguard: "The vessel has been there for just over a week - the owners are aware.

"They are waiting for high enough tide to raft the vessel.

"In another week it should be suitably high enough tide to do so."

He added that no one was on the boat when it washed up.
