Ex-public schoolboy’s cheeky court request as he was jailed for breaking banning order
Classical guitarist Piers Fairweather Edmondson, 32, made audacious request while he was sitting in the dock waiting to be sentenced
A FORMER pupil at one of the country’s top private schools asked to be served a cup of tea in court before he was jailed.
Piers Fairweather Edmondson, 32, was put behind bars yesterday for breaching a restraining order that banned him from contacting his own parents.
A trained classical guitarist who plays at the Savoy Hotel on the Strand, he was also found drunkenly wandering around Victoria Station on April 24 this year.
Croydon Magistrates’ Court also heard that two weeks earlier Edmondson had swiped a £250 electronic toothbrush from a Boots shop in the town.
He breached the order preventing him contacting his mother and father or going within 200 metres of their house on April 29.
Edmondson, dressed in a blazer and shirt, was sitting in the dock yesterday waiting to be sentenced when he turned to an usher and asked: “Any chance of a cup of tea?”
However, when he saw three burly dock officers approaching, he said: “I'm b*ggered.”
And as they closed in he added: “Oh s*it, oh s*it.”

The court heard how he went to his parent's six bedroom £2.75million house in Oxted, Surrey, “extremely drunk” and was told to leave.
He was later found asleep in his car in the grounds.
On another occasion he rang his father and asked for £300 after claiming he was being threatened by an unknown person.
David Cowan, the lawyer defending Piers, said: “He has been given a lot of talents and a lot of opportunity but he has not made the most of them.”
Piers admitted to stealing the toothbrush, harassment by breaching the terms of a restraining order and being drunk at Victoria Station.
He also admitted to two counts of failing to surrender for not showing up at previous court dates at Westminster and Croydon Magistrates’ Courts.
Sentencing him, the Magistrate Alison Cousins said: “Because of your recent and constant breaches of any type of court order, these are so serious that only a custodial sentence is appropriate today.
“For the theft, the failure to surrender and the breach of the restraining order we impose a prison sentence of ten weeks to run concurrently for each.
“There will be no further punishment for being drunk on the railway.”
He will serve half of his ten week sentence before being eligible for release on licence, minus the two weeks he has already spent in custody, so could be out in just over a fortnight.
Piers, who attended the prestigious King’s School in Canterbury, Kent, must also pay £255 in costs.
Former pupils of the school include the writer Michael Morpurgo, former British Army Field-Marshall Bernard Montgomery and former England cricket captain David Gower.
Later educated at King’s College London, where he achieved a 2:1 in War Studies and Philosophy, Piers also attended the Royal College of Music.
