JEZ HATE FAIL

Jeremy Corbyn and ‘whitewash’ sidekick Baroness Chakrabarti shamed over ‘incompetence’ to stamp out ‘vile’ anti-semitic abuse in Labour party

Party leader was singled out for not providing 'consistent leadership' over the hate crime in a damning MP's report

JEREMY Corbyn and Baroness Chakrabarti have been savaged over “institutionally anti-semitic” abuse within Labour in a damning MPs’ report.

The party leader was singled out for not providing “consistent leadership” over the hate crime as his own MPs got online abuse and death threats.

Senior MPs were also not persuaded that Mr Corbyn appreciated the nature of post-war anti-semitism.

Mr Corbyn’s “reluctance” to separate it from racism created a so-called safe space for those with “vile attitudes” towards Jewish people, the hard-hitting report found.

It also accused the party of incompetence in dealing with high-profile allegations of anti-semitism from Ken Livingstone and Jackie Walker, who was axed from left-wing group Momentum.

The 70-page report by the Home Affairs Select Committee said failure to deal with the incidents “risks lending force to allegations that elements of the Labour movement are institutionally anti-semitic”.

It also blasted new Labour peer Shami Chakrabarti over her “whitewash” report into anti-semitism in Labour.

They said her report was “lacking in many areas”.

Mr Corbyn commissioned the inquiry but Baroness Chakrabarti was not “sufficiently open” about when she was offered and then accepted a peerage, declining to answer questions, the report said.

Labour MP and committee member Chuka Umunna said the party had to admit it had failed to deliver on its principles of “living together freely, in a spirit of solidarity, tolerance and respect”.

Mr Corbyn said last night the report “unfairly criticises Shami Chakrabarti”.

DAMNING NEW EVIDENCE

By Stephen Pollard, Jewish Chronicle Editor

AS MPs have concluded, the evidence is overwhelming.

Mr Corbyn might say he hates all forms of racism but his actions, or rather inactions, show he either doesn’t care at all about anti-semitism or doesn’t care enough to do anything serious about it.
