BIGAMIST SUICIDE

Serial cheat hanged himself after third wife caught him hunting for wife number FOUR

His loyal third wife had stood by him even after he was exposed as a bigamist

A BIGAMIST hanged himself after his third wife booted him out when she discovered he was looking for wife number FOUR.

Adrian Linham, 44, was jailed for 18 weeks after he was exposed as a bigamist when second wife Liz saw photos of his third wedding on Facebook.

Linham's doting third wife Hayley Totterdell had stood by her cheating new hubby, who had two children from his first marriage and one with Liz, and waited for him to be released from prison.

But she kicked Linham out of the house after she discovered he had struck up a relationship with another woman from Cornwall after his release.

Linham suffered depression in prison and and moved back home with his mother Anthea after his marriage broke down.

On the day he died, Linham left the house telling his mum: "I love you so much mum. You don't have to worry about me any more".

Cops then called Anthea later that evening to say dog walker Susan Yeo had found her son hanged at remote Tower House Farm.

Scuba diver Linham, who was the youngest of four brothers, had been reported missing by his mother Anthea earlier that day on March 28.

Officers called at the family home in Bristol, and found a note written in blood on top of the chest of drawers in his bedroom which read "sorry".

Just days before his death, Linham was taken to Dorset County Hospital by the coastguard on March 20, after worried bystanders saw him leaning over a cliff edge.

He had overdosed on a cocktail of over the counter tablets and was admitted into intensive care, where Linham told ward staff he had tried to take his own life.

But he was discharged from hospital three days later after a mental health nurse deemed him safe to return home following a 90 minute interview.

The inquest in Flax Bourton, Bristol, heard Linham told mental health staff he was no longer feeling suicidal, but his family had described him as a "compulsive liar".

Mental Health Liaison Nurse Andrew Pinder said: "He was able to engage throughout the interview. He said he had made some mistakes in relationships.

"And that he had taken the overdose as a cry for help. He didn't explain to me that he had wanted to take his own life.

"He had expressed during the assessment how helpful he had found talking therapy. He said he was happy to engage with services.

"At the time I felt he was being open and honest because he engaged so well and was willing to follow the steps we discussed. I don't think I would make a different decision."

Linham had secretly dated third wife to be Hayley for three years telling his loyal second wife of seven years Liz he was 'working away' as a scuba diver - often in Bangor, North Wales.

His first marriage ended in divorce when he discovered his wife was having an affair.

He married Hayley in 2014 on the same Mexican beach where he had whisked Liz away on their honeymoon in 2007.

Heartbroken mum-of-one Liz, 37, discovered his deception when she received a letter from her mother-in-law saying she was sorry to see they had divorced and Adrian had remarried.

Horrified Liz then found a catalogue of photographs showing her grinning husband posing with his new bride while browsing Facebook.

Unemployed Linham was jailed for 18 weeks in February last year for marrying Hayley while still legally wed to Liz.

The inquest heard Linham was diagnosed with post traumatic stress disorder after being bullied in jail and witnessed two brothers hang themselves in the cell next to him.

Linham's depression started when he divorced his first wife after discovering she was having an affair, and she made it difficult for him to see their two children.

His mother Anthea said: "He found out his wife had been having an affair and it broke him.

"A year later he remarried on the rebound. I believe he started going on websites in 2012 where he met a wonderful young woman - they were the perfect couple and we adored them.

"He was never married to her in this country therefore saw no harm. When the second wife found out it was the beginning of the end.

"He was a broken man when he was released, had no self-esteem and started lying about himself.

"I told him I would help him but he didn't answer. He got changed and went down into the hallway.

"I said where are you going and he replied 'I love you so much mum. You don't have to worry about me any more'. I never saw him again.

"I could not stand the wait so I reported him as a missing person. I have lost my son and I have failed him."

The inquest continues.
