Hate crimes recorded by cops hit record high after rising by ‘over a quarter in ONE year’
HATE crimes recorded by cops have risen by more than a quarter in twelve months, figures show.
Police forces recorded 155,841 offences with seventy per cent of those being racially motivated, Home Office statistics show.
Religious hate crimes rose by some 37 per cent to reach the highest level since records began ten years ago.
There was an increase of 41 per cent for sexual orientation offences and disability hate crime was up by 43 per cent.
Dr Hannah Dennis, clinical psychologist who has worked with individuals with learning disabilities, called the statistics both “disturbing and shocking”.
She added: “The impact for these individuals lasts many years and can result in increased mental health issues, increased social isolation, low self esteem and reduced activity levels.”
