Kerch Bridge exploded in a mystery fireball, killing three people in what's being dubbed a major blow to Russia's war on Ukraine.

The shock explosion - which comes just a day after Putin's birthday - set fire to the railway line and blew out a section of a road bridge collapsing it into the depths of the Black Sea.

And Volodymyr Zelensky wasted no time in following up this news with a comical weather report.

During his nightly video address on Telegram, the Ukrainian leader quipped that the conditions were "cloudy in Crimea".

President Zelensky said: "Today was a good and mostly sunny day in our country.

"Over most of the territory, it was about 20 degrees Celsius and sunny.

"Unfortunately, it was cloudy in Crimea, although it was still warm.

"But however the clouds are, Ukrainians know what to do, and they know that our future is sunny.

"This is the future without invaders, on all our territory, in particular in Crimea."

Incredible video and pictures show the size of the blast which collapsed part of the road and set fire to a fuel train on the adjacent railway line.

It is a hammer blow to Russia's already disastrous war effort in Ukraine as it cripples part of their supply chain and shows just how the far the reach of Kyiv's military has grown.

The exact cause of the explosion remains unknown.

But the leading theory at the moment - and the allegation being levied by Russia - is the explosion was

CCTV of the explosion shows the blast on the roadway seemingly centred around a large semi truck.

Russian authorities have also released pictures of a red big rig which they claim was responsible for the explosion.

Camera footage from the bridge shows the truck stopping at a checkpoint before being allowed to pass onto the Kerch Bridge.

Local officials said three people died in the explosion and rescue crews fished out two unidentified bodies from the water.

A Ukrainian military source told The Sun Online a "vehicle bomb" was used to trigger the explosion.

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) - Kyiv's secret service that operates a special forces unit - were reported to have been behind the blast by leading Ukrainian outlet .

The SBU has not yet commented on the claims.

Ukraine has not claimed responsibility for the attack - but has widely celebrated the explosion and previously hinted they would attack the Kerch Bridge.

The explosion is a huge hit to Putin's prestige, who staked his reputation on keeping the peninsula safe from Ukrainian attack.

And there are lines of ships said to be forming near the ruined road unable to pass due debris in the water.

And it is an utter embarrassment for Russians who bragged about having 20 different ways of protecting the bridge, including military dolphins.

Both the rail and road bridges are hated symbols of Russia's occupation of Crimea and have been key supply routes throughout Russia's invasion.

Meanwhile, Moscow has named the owner of the truck used in Saturday's explosion as Sabir Yusubov.

The 25-year-old from Krasnodar region admitted to owning the vehicle but denied any involvement in the surprise attack.

Yusubov, who appeared shocked by the allegations, told BAZA media: "I’ve got nothing to do with what happened on the Crimean bridge.

“The truck is registered to my name. But it was my uncle working with it, my father’s cousin, Makhir Yusubov."

Extraordinary footage from the scene shows a train - allegedly carrying fuel - engulfed in flames and the bridge's foundations buckling under the sheer force of the fire.

Witnesses reported hearing explosions at around 6am local time which could be heard miles away.

And one clip showed the moment the Crimean bridge was rocked by at least one giant explosion.

The clip suggests a truck exploded while on the road section of the bridge as it drove towards Kerch in Crimea.

Russia forcibly took control of Crimea in 2014 and built what is still the longest bridge Moscow has ever constructed four years later.

The railway span is part of a pair of parallel bridges, crossing the Kerch Strait linking Krasnodar in Russia and Crimea.

Some 11 miles long, the road bridge was opened by Russian president Vladimir Putin in 2018, with the railway bridge opening two years later.

Russian sources speculate on an underwater drone being responsible for the attack on the Crimean Bridge - long seen as a prize target by the Ukrainians.
