Battle-hardened Kurdish fighter LAUGHS and takes pictures as nearby explosions send war reporter diving for cover
The amused fighter - appearing impervious to distant explosions - is seen gesturing for the reporter to stand up
HAVING spent decades at war across Iraq, Iran, Syria and Turkey, the Kurdish peshmerga are considered some of the most hardened fighters on the planet.
And as this video shows, gunfire and explosions do little to frighten their battle ready warriors - though it can give them a laugh.
Footage shows a CBS war correspondent who dived for cover while reporting on the fighters giving one such fighter a chuckle.
Behind her, the fighter - appearing impervious to the distant explosions - is seen laughing and gesturing for her to stand up - and even photographing her on an iPad.
The report was originally broadcast on CBS Evening News and featured war correspondent Holly Williams.
During the piece to camera, she explains "over the last few days we've seen video emerging from inside Mosul of what appear to be..." before she is cut off by the explosions.
She dives for cover before the footage cuts back to anchor Scott Pelley, who clarifies: "Holly and her crew were fine, but it was the start of an eventful day."
The report came from the outskirts of Mosul, where some 30,000 Iraqi and militia troops have massed in bid to wrest control of the city from ISIS.
It is estimated 5,000 of ISIS's most battle-hardened troops are still inside the city, planting bombs and preparing for street-to-street warfare.
The advance on Mosul, which began only a few days ago, is expected to take several months. So far, only outlying villages have been liberated.
