Local channel in Miami reported that Rodriguez has been charged with arson and attempted murder after he set his mattress on fire.

It happened in the early hours of Monday, said police, after taking a somewhat manic mugshot of their suspect.

It is claimed Rodriguez, known as Halfy to mates, set his mattress on fire at his home.

The City of Miami Police said in an arrest report that officers arrived to find the 31-year-old in his garden.

7News said during the fire, there were two victims inside a duplex, which is connected to the house.

One of the victims was his mother, Anicia Rodriguez, who owns the building.

Investigating the blaze, it was found that the fire was deliberately started, allegedly by Rodriguez.

That in turn posed a threat to other occupants.

Rodriguez made a preliminary court appearance on Tuesday where a judge ordered him to pay a $20,000 bond to be released from custody.

The head injury was as a result of a car crash when he went through the windscreen and underwent drastic surgery to remove much of the front of his skull after smashing it on impact with the road.

In a video on YouTube video he made, Rodriguez explained: "I was barred out on drugs. I was driving, and I hit a pole and flew out the front window and landed on my head.”
