WAS THAT WHEELIE WISE?

Domino’s pizza delivery driver who pulled a wheelie in front of a howling crowd has been sacked

A Domino's pizza delivery rider popped a wheelie as he drove through a busy high street only to FALL OFF in front of stunned bystanders.

A MANIAC pizza delivery driver who binned his wheelie in front of a howling crowd has been sacked - as he revealed a host of other road yob videos.

Alex Stevens, 18, became an internet laughing stock when spectacular footage of him crashing his Honda 125 in a high street went viral.

But the death wish teen insisted he was only emulating a TV ad for Domino's in which a food courier rears-up on his back wheel.

And he assured customers: "I never pulled any wheelies when I had pizzas on board - I didn't want to ruin them."

Alex has been sacked and faces police prosecution for failing to control a motor vehicle for his display in Clapham, south west London, on September 18.

He said: "We all know the advert - and all the riders try to copy it. I was the best. I can go for miles.

"I pull wheelies everywhere. Police have caught me a couple of times and just ticked me off.

"I joined a rival company called Pizza Go-Go for a few months, but their bikes were harder to wheelie because they have a double box on the back, so went back to Domino's.

"I had just delivered a pepperoni passion and a Fanta when I hoisted the wheel in the air for a couple of hundred yards at about 25mph.

"There was a dip in the road. I tried to avoid it but was too late and ended up on the side. The bike's number plate was smashed.

"I hurt my leg as well as my pride - it was the first time I had ever come off.

"Then I saw this group of guys outside a motorbike shop bent double laughing. An hour later it was on Youtube.

"The office knew straight away because there are sensors on the bikes to let them know if one crashes. I tried to deny it."

Alex, of nearby Wandsworth, has posted a host of clips on his Instagram account of him wheelying bikes while scraping the back number plate.

He claims two of his food delivery pals have died in recent months under the wheels of other vehicles.

The wayward teen added: "We only get 25p per delivery, so that encourages to ride like lunatics. I know we get on the nerves of other motorists.

"It has been pointed out that I could have fallen towards the pavement where a mother and child could have been walking.

"But I never thought I was a danger when pulling a wheelie. Having said that, I think pizza delivery places ought to only employ riders over 21 who are more mature.

"I have certainly learned my lesson - there will be no more wheelies for me."

A series of videos on Alex's 'skatty rider' Instagram account show the L-plated lunatic on one wheel on new Domino's machines.

A man off-camera be heard saying "oi, oi, oi" as he is clearly impressed by the delivery man's balancing act.

However he then breaks out into laughter as the rider loses control of his scooter and topples over.

The driver was spotted popping the wheelie on Clapham High Street in south-west London.

The clip, which appeared on Twitter, lasts roughly 12 seconds.

One social media user commented: "I wonder what state the pizzas were in?"

Another wrote: "The funniest thing I've seen so far this evening? A Domino's pizza boy tries to pull a wheel on his 50cc delivery bike."

A Domino's spokesman said: "The safety of the public and our colleagues is of paramount importance and this behaviour was clearly wholly unacceptable. Domino’s requires its drivers to drive responsibly at all times and at no point would we encourage or condone reckless driving.

"As a delivery driver using a company scooter Mr Stevens was paid in excess of the National Living Wage at £7.75 per hour, with an additional 25p per delivery.

"Drivers using their own vehicles are paid £1 per delivery on top of the standard £7.75 per hour.

"Following the incident Mr Stevens was invited to attend a disciplinary meeting the following day, but failed to attend, so his contract was terminated with immediate effect.”
