THIS shocking footage shows two prisoners slugging it out in a brutal jailhouse scrap surrounded by cheering lags - with not a guard in sight.
The two shirtless men start punching each other in the prison courtyard - and the fight goes on even when one is floored.
An anonymous guard said officers daren't intercept as many of the prisoners in the Brazilian jail are armed.
An insider filmed the fight - a daily spectacle in the overcrowded Complexo do Curado Jail in the city of Recife.
A lag told Brazilian TV firm Globo: "When does this finish? When the first man faints."
Brazil's underfunded, overcrowded prisons have achieved notoriety as places which are ruled by the inmates.
Earlier this week 25 people were killed - seven of them beheaded - in a riot at another Brazilian jail, Agricola de Monte Cristo Prison, during visiting hour.
An inmate Complexo do Curado jail in the northern state Pernambuco said: "Fights take place every day.
"There is training to prepare for a fight and specific days are marked in the calendar for tournaments."
And an anonymous guard added: "As time goes by, prisoners are more and more armed.
"Guards don’t go into some sectors because of those guns."
The prison was designed for under 2,000 inmates but currently holds 7,000.
The footage is embarrassing for the government which is in charge of one of the world's worst penal systems.
Prosecutor Marcelo Ugiette said: "This is an example of what should never happen."
He added: "More than 50 percent of inmates are waiting for their trials."
But Pedro Eurico, the Justice and Human Rights Secretary of the State of Pernambuco promised that the people involved will be punished and said: "Any type of violence in prison is a criminal act."
In January, the Complexo do Curado prison was the scene of a massive jailbreak when 40 inmates made a break for it after blowing up one of the walls with explosives.
Two men were killed in the ensuing riots, one was injured and 36 were captured.
One inmate called Kleber Jose de Araujo, 32, managed to escape.
Brazil has one of the most crowded penitentiary systems in the world with 622,000 people jailed in 2014, making it the fourth largest prison population after the US, China and Russia.
