Bloodthirsty prisoners behead fellow inmate then play football with his HEAD in horrific attack

HORRIFIC footage has revealed the moment savage inmates at a Brazilian prison beheaded a fellow prisoner and played FOOTBALL with his severed head.

Disgusting footage shows criminals kicking the man's head around in a yard at the prison in Fortaleza, north-eastern Brazil, last week.

The notorious Primeiro Comando da Capital gang are allegedly behind the stomach-churning incident - which is just the latest example of unfathomable violence to plague Brazil's overcrowded, underfunded prisons.

The $32 million drug gang is suspected of killing a member of a rival gang, Comando Vermelho, following a break out of "war" between the gangs.

At least 25 prisoners were also killed on Sunday and Monday as violence escalated in prisons across the South American nation - with massive prison riots taking place in the northern states of Rondonia and Roraima.

During the violence in Roraima, reports suggest seven people were beheaded with pieces of wood and six others burned to death - while 100 visiting relatives were also taken hostage.

Regional government spokesperson Jessica Laurie said: "The inmates were armed with stones and pieces of wood that they ripped from the walls. They used those bits of wood to decapitate their rivals. It was very brutal."

Meanwhile, at least eight inmates died of smoke inhalation in Rodonia after prisoners believed to be linked to the gangs set mattresses alight.

A local police spokesperson told AFP: "There are thought to be eight people dead but the bodies are burnt and the medical authorities will have to confirm."

Brazil has a history of prison violence - with sociologist Camila Nunes Dias warning that more instability and violence within Brazil's prison network could follow.

The conditions in Brazilian jails have also been criticised by human rights groups - with reporting prisons are currently holding 60 per cent more prisoners than their maximum capacity.
