British sailor arrested in Cyprus over alleged rape of teen girl, 16
A BRITISH sailor has been arrested for the alleged rape of a 16-year-old girl in Cyprus.
It comes after the Royal Navy launched a probe into allegations of sexual abuse in the submarine service.
The latest alleged incident is said to have happened on the holiday island after a military drill involving troops and marines.
Republic of Cyprus Police arrested the Royal Navy rating, 19, after his alleged victim, said to be a British tourist, reported him.
She told officers the sailor was “known to her” and had attacked her in a flat.
She met him earlier at a bar in Paphos after they exchanged messages.

Police issued an arrest warrant for the sailor who was remanded in custody.
He denies the charges.
He is expected to stand trial behind closed doors because the victim is a minor.
