The 47-year-old from Cumbria tells them there is nothing to fear as Batman has already locked up their ringleader, the Joker, so he can deal with the rest without a problem.

He said: "They're always quite a similar pattern.

"The kids are apprehensive and scared at first but at the end of the day they are very thankful.

"We put the bat-phone up there to reassure people of the clown situation and that was really rewarding and really worked which I'm proud about."

The superhero business has 12 volunteers who all work on the phones calming children - though Gary did fork out £1,000 on the Batman costume.

Mum Stephanie Dunford praised Garry and his team for their work.

She said: "My daughter is autistic - she wouldn't sleep without the bedroom light on and wouldn't eat her dinner as she thought there was a clown in the garden.

"She was terrified and we made a call to Batman and it put a lovely smile on her face again.

"She loved it and is no longer scared.

"She ate her dinner and will go into any room now - she has even gone to bed with the bedroom light off.

"I cannot thank you enough for that little call as it has made a huge difference with no shut downs or melt downs tonight over clowns."

Earlier this month Gary appeared as Batman on This Morning where he appeared via a live link up, and explained what exactly he does.
