Parents furious after infant school bans children from running in the playground… but they are allowed to skip
School head explained keeping children safe as their main priority
CHILDREN at an infants school have been barred from running in the playground — so they are skipping instead.
Kids were told they could no longer dash around because too many were “bumping their heads”.
Anyone doing so would have to stand against a wall for a minute.
But pupils are getting round the ban by bouncing from one foot to the other at Summerhill Infants in Bristol.
One mum only found out about the no-running rule when her six-year-old started acting strangely.
She said: “He was skipping everywhere and I asked him why.
“He said it was because they’d been stopped from running as too many kids were bumping into each other.
“It’s every child’s right to run about. To stop is health and safety gone mad.”
Mum Christine Rumsby added: “It’s beyond a joke.”
Parents are now calling for the ban to be lifted.
Head Ira De N’Yeurt said it applied only in the playground.
He explained: “On return from summer holidays we had a steep rise in head bumps.
“Keeping our children safe is our top priority.”
