Cops swoop on home of ‘mummy’s boy’ teen terror suspect after finding bomb on Tube train
'Loner' Damon Smith, 19, posted videos of himself shooting replica glock and listening to Muslim prayer calls in Turkey
A “LONER” teenager is at the centre of a probe into a plot to bomb a Tube train.
Anti-terror officers raided an address in Devon on Saturday where poker-loving student Damon Smith, 19, used to live.
Police had tasered and arrested a suspect, 19, in London on Friday after finding a “viable” explosive on an Underground train.
A second suspicious device was discovered at the back of a garage at the Devon address, causing evacuations of nearby properties, on Saturday.
Local football games were abandoned so police helicopters could use the pitches to land on.
Police later said the device was “not viable” but were granted six more days to quiz the suspect they arrested in London.
Last night it emerged “mummy’s boy” Smith had posted pictures of himself online, even posing with a replica AK-47 and imitation Glock pistol.
Pals said he was a martial arts fan who liked online poker.
Former best friend Vincent Jones, also 19, said: “Damon was quite successful at poker. I think that’s how he would fund buying replica weapons.
“He had a Koran and knew several phrases and he wore a black headscarf. Damon had replica guns and air rifles and even posted a video of himself shooting a replica Glock on YouTube.”
Vincent said: “His mum was always quite protective of him because he had learning difficulties. She moved to London with him when he got on an IT course at a London university.”
Detectives are thought to be gathering material on Smith’s trips abroad to Turkey and Egypt.
One 60-second video on Facebook shows him listening to what sounds like a Muslim call to prayer being read out in Istanbul.
He has also posed with huge wads of cash won playing poker.
His 47-year-old single mum Antonitza refused to comment.
Ex-girlfriend Deanna Jones, 20, Vincent’s sister, told The Sun: “His mother used to come with him on dates, which seemed odd.”
An aunt said: “We’re all shocked. He comes from a large family of Greek Cypriots and there’s never been any extremism in the family.”
Officers have visited several addresses linked to the teenager.
A new family of three have moved into the Devon house.
