THIS is the terrifying moment a massive great white shark tries to take a bite of a kayaker's oar.

The shocking footage shows the predator circling the vessel just six miles from the shore of Port Augusta in South Australia.

Experienced kayaker Matthew Gorne from Adelaide, was out fishing on Monday when he spotted the great white.

The shocking footage shows the shark swimming underneath the kayak a few times while Matthew remains perfectly still.

Suddenly Matthew can be seen moving the oar as the shark jumps out of the water trying to grab it.

The clip finishes before the end of the attack but Matthew made it back to the shore safely.

He told the he knows he is “stupid” for going out into the water without a shark shield.

“I will definitely be investing in one now though,” he said.

The video was shared on social media and left people stunned.

Meanwhile, last week, a model has spoken out about the moment she came face to face with a 16ft shark - nicknamed Queen Nikki.

Chilling footage shows the huge tiger shark lunging towards Ocean Ramsey with open jaws as she prepared to dive into the ocean.

The huge sea creature stole the show during San Onofre Surfing Club's annual contest in San Diego County, California.
