Royal British Legion bosses thank Sun readers for helping to raise £1million for Poppy Appeal in London

BOSSES of Britain’s biggest veterans’ charity have said “thanks a million” to Sun readers.

Last Thursday’s London Poppy Day for the Royal British Legion raised more than £1million.

Poppy Appeal director Simon O’Leary said: “We thank everyone who helped us achieve this, including Sun readers.”

Around 2,000 personnel from the Royal Navy, Army and RAF joined Legion volunteers to collect across the capital.

A planned rail strike had threatened to spoil the day but The Sun shamed union chiefs into calling off the walkout.

Rishi Sunak collected at Westminster station and TV’s Ross Kemp sold poppies with the Irish Guards and their Irish Wolfhound mascot, Seamus.

EastEnders Shane Richie voiced tannoy messages on the Tube.

Ross said: “£1million in a day is fantastic news.”
