BINGO, lottery and sports betting ads could be banned from daytime TV in a crackdown by ministers.

The Government review will look into the persuasive power of TV ads promoting gambling.

There were 1.4million TV ads promoting gambling in 2012, up from 90,000 in 2005.

It is feared the rise exposes children and gambling addicts to temptation.

Culture Secretary Karen Bradley admitted yesterday her kids “can recite just about every gambling ad there is” because they see so many of them on 24-hour sports channels.

The Government review will also consider calls to cut the maximum stake on highly addictive Fixed Odds Betting Terminals from £100 to £2.

Labour’s Shadow Culture Secretary Tom Watson welcomed the review.

“They can cause real and lasting damage to gamblers and they have become a huge problem for communities that are often struggling to cope with under-investment and high unemployment.”

Punters can lose hundreds of pounds in minutes on the machines, known as the “crack cocaine” of gambling.

Gambling Minister Tracey Crouch said it was important to “strike the right balance between allowing the industry to contribute to the economy and ensuring consumers are protected”.
