Sneering Salt Bae sparks fury after BOASTING about group’s eye-watering £140,584 bill at his steak restaurant
SALT Bae gained internet fame in 2017 for his iconic salt-sprinkling pose - but has angered his Instagram followers after bragging about a £140,584 bill at his high-end restaurant.
A single steak from the evening was over £1000, and the group spent almost £115,000 on wine alone.
The backlash comes amidst the worst cost-of-living crisis seen in decades, as inflation soars and millions struggle to pay for food and rent.
Starter dishes at his lavish Abu Dhabi restaurant Nusr-Et Steakhouse can cost up to £200 per diner, according to its website.
The is known for his gold leaf steaks and extravagant cooking style, but some think he's taken things too far.
The 14 guests responsible for the jaw dropping bill paid £10,000 each for the meal.
The viral chef posted the receipt last night with the caption "Quality never expensive", angering his 49 million Instagram followers.

One follower commented: "Seeing this bill and thinking of my patients who cannot afford the cost of their liver transplant makes me sad."
Another said the money would be better spent feeding several thousand starving children, calling it a waste of money.
Many in his comment section are saying they won't support the chef anymore, as his post bragging about the massive bill is out of touch:
"I was a big fan but when I saw this I was really disappointed. People are dying everyday because they can't find basic food.
"You are so proud of your bill but your native country is in mourning. So disappointed." one user commented.

Salt Bae, who's real name is Nusret Gökçe, apparently grew up in a financially unstable home before opening his first restaurant in Turkey in 2010.
He was originally born in Erzurum to a Kurdish family - his father Faik, who was a mineworker.
However, during his time in the sixth grade, he was forced to leave school and work as a butcher's apprentice in Istanbul - due to the family's struggle with finances.
Due to the success of his restaurant chain, it's now estimated he has a net worth of £44million pounds as of 2021.
He has served clientele including Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai; Leonardo Di Caprio; and Lionel Messi.
