The Kimar and GAP 9mm handguns fired blanks but could be used for live fire, a court heard.

The 12,000-volt stun guns were disguised as mobile phones. One was discovered in his girlfriend’s handbag next to their bed.

Coleman-Mitchell, of Gravesend, Kent, said a pal sent him the stun guns from the US and he was not sure what they were.

Prosecutor Daniel Stevenson said The former Met Police officer claimed he didn’t know what they were and said they “just made a noise.”

Coleman-Mitchell had also claimed that he had put the stun gun in his girlfriend’s bag as a joke.

The ex-PC wanted to hand them into colleagues but was “too embarrassed” to do so.

Coleman-Mitchell — who was commended for his work during the 2011 London riots — left the Met Police to become a company director.

The dad of one collected guns but had firearm certificates for only some weapons, Maidstone crown court was told.

Shawn Esprit, defending, said because he’d been in the police he was suitable to have a firearms licence.

Coleman-Mitchell was given a commendation for his “cool and calm behaviour” in the 2011 riots.

Esprit said: “He has a legitimate interest in firearms. He didn’t solicit the stun guns.”

He admitted five offences of possessing a disguised firearm and two of possessing a prohibited firearm. He was jailed for two years and four months on Monday — his 25th birthday.
