Prison officer found guilty of misconduct after collecting lag’s sperm in syringe in plan to conceive ‘chocolate baby’
Gran Alison Sharples planned to use syringe as a 'turkey baster' after falling for convicted criminal Marvin Berkeley

A PRISON officer who tried to smuggle an inmate’s sperm out of the jail so she could have his baby is now facing a stint behind bars.
Gran Alison Sharples, 46, was caught with convict Marvin Berkeley’s semen in a syringe after they struck up an “intimate” relationship.
She told pals she planned to have a “chocolate baby” with Berkeley, 31, after she fell for the lag.
The court heard she was caught during a routine search of her bag as she left HMP Garth, Leyland, Lancs.
Sharples claimed the syringe was used to give her granddaughter medicine but during a search of her home a love letter was found from Berkeley in her underwear drawer.
She had confided in a pal that she and Berkeley planned to continue their romance when he was released on parole.
Friend Nicola Ball told the court Sharples had intended to use the syringe as a “turkey baster”.
Camille Morland, prosecuting, told Preston Crown Court: “The relationship between the prisoner and the defendant was close, covert and sexually intimate, if not necessarily physically so.
“The defendant seemed besotted by Berkeley and she had been promised by him they would be together when he was released from prison.

“It is submitted that such a relationship is one which falls far below that which is expected by a member of prison staff.
“It is in breach of prison rules and professional conduct, such that public confidence in the system is undermined.”
The jury took less than three hours to find Sharples, of Chorley, Lancashire guilty of misconduct in a public office.
She will be sentenced on November 30.
