Police issue warning after shocking attack
AN 83-year-old man has been struck on the head by an exploding firework posted through his letterbox.
Thugs posted the lit firework into the pensioners home at about 3.20pm yesterday, police have said.
He was taken to hospital with a head injury following the attack.
Cops have issued a warning following the attack in Darnall, Sheffield, and asked any witnesses to come forward.
Temporary Sergeant Phil Ackerley said: “An investigation is now underway to identify those involved in this incident and I’d like to ask anyone who saw what happened to contact us.
“If you saw anyone acting suspiciously in the area this afternoon, or have any information, please contact us on 101 or speak to one of our PCSOs in the area."

He added: "This type of behaviour will not be tolerated and I want to reassure local residents that anyone found to be using fireworks in a dangerous or antisocial way will be dealt with accordingly.”
Police have asked anyone with information to call 101 quoting incident number 711 of 26 October 2016.
