Lily Allen accused of lying about London black cab driver refusing to give her and kids a lift after teary Calais Jungle outburst
Singer provoked fury by apologising "on behalf of the country" during Jungle camp visit
LILY Allen was last night accused of lying over a black taxi “migrant” row.
The singer claimed a driver had told her to "find an immigrant to drive you, you stupid tart" while she was out with her kids as the backlash to her teary Calais Jungle visit continues.
The pop luvvie provoked fury earlier this month by breaking down in tears and telling an Afghan migrant in the Calais camp: “I apologise on behalf of my country. I’m sorry for what we have put you through."
Today she posted a tweet saying: "Just tried to get in a black cab with my kids. The driver looked at me and said, 'Find an immigrant to drive you, you stupid tart'."
The tweet has divided opinion with some urging her to report the driver and others accusing her of making the claims up.
Responding to a Twitter user who also said the row “definitely didn’t happen”, Lily accused them of “victim shaming” her. She later tweeted: “London cabbies are the best in the world.”
After her visit to the camp critics accused the star, whose last UK chart entry was number 93 in 2014, of trying to boost her flagging career during the visit.
Lily’s trip to The Jungle, which shut this week, also triggered a backlash on Twitter.
She hit back at her critics saying: “So much abuse for apologising to a helpless child for the part this country has played in contributing to his dire situation.”
She also insisted she would “100 per cent” take a child migrant into her home, adding “Who wouldn’t?”
At the time Colonel Richard Kemp, a British commander in Afghanistan in 2003, said: “What is she doing there? She clearly does not have any understanding of the situation.
“The refugee is in a safe country and the French have an obligation to look after him. I find it enormously insulting. She does not represent us.”

The lad Lily spoke to told her his father lives in Birmingham.
Despite having a legal right to join him, he has spent two months trying to sneak on to lorries heading for Britain.
The teen told her: “The legal process is . . . too slow. The way I am trying works better.”
The singer faced fresh criticism yesterday after launching a bizarre conspiracy theory over “child migrants”.
She said the Home Office deliberately allowed photos of older-looking UK arrivals to turn public opinion against refugees.
Lily, 31, suggested she was seeing Brits being manipulated in the same way Germans fell for Hitler’s propaganda, allowing Nazis into power.
But she would not question the right of migrants to come to the UK as “I don’t want to be a good German. I want to be on the right side of history”.
The Smile singer, daughter of TV star Keith Allen, was yesterday branded “crass” and “deeply ignorant” for her comments by Jewish groups.
Lily also slammed anyone daring to question the ages of migrants arriving from the Calais camp.
There are concerns insufficient age checks are allowing older Calais migrants to pose as children.
She said: “From a very early age we were taught about the Second World War and how evil Hitler was.
“You always wonder how he managed to get the whole country to go along with that. Now we’re seeing it.
“But I don’t want to be a good German. I want to be on the right side of history.”
Stephen Pollard, editor of the Jewish Chronicle, said: “If Lily Allen thinks those Brits who have concerns about some of the refugees in Calais are the same as Germans who stood by while Hitler attempted to exterminate an entire race then she needs to learn some basic common sense, as well as apologise for a crass and deeply ignorant comment."
The Calais Jungle was cleared this week, charities have said that unaccompanied migrant children are sleeping rough outside the demolished camp.
A french mayor has said that it is only a matter of time before it is rebuilt.
