TRAGEDY WARNING

Snowflake theatre-goers given woke warning to expect violence and death in Shakespeare’s play Hamlet

THEATRE-goers received a woke warning to expect violence and death in Hamlet — where most of the characters are known to snuff it.

Producers also flagged up self-harm, suicide and mental illness in the dark play that for five centuries has tackled the title character’s madness.

A woke warning has been added to famous Shakespeare play Hamlet

It is one of the Bard’s most staged plays.

But bosses at the Cambridge University-run ADC Theatre issued around 30 warnings about the content — including rape, sexual assault, incest, discrimination and drugs or alcohol abuse.

There is also an alert about “death and/or dying”.

But learning resource Study.com says: “It is a well-known fact that Shakespeare’s tragedies normally conclude in death, and Hamlet, written in 1600 to 1601, is no exception.”
