Paedo Jimmy Savile’s body to remain overlooking two local schools because no-one will fund £20,000 cost of digging him up
Locals in Scarborough have been left horrified as the paedophile still occupies a 6ft-wide plot
A CAMPAIGN to have the body of Jimmy Savile removed from its grave has been stopped in its tracks – because nobody is prepared to pay £20,000 to dig him up.
Locals in Scarborough are horrified that the paedophile still occupies a 6ft-wide triple plot overlooking the sea.
Meanwhile, demands to have his body exhumed and cremated have even been backed by members of his own family, according to the .
But lawyers have revealed the notorious TV presenter’s £4 million legacy has been drained by legal bills and compensation costs, or set aside for donations – with the BBC, NHS and Barnado’s all receiving payments.
As a result, the body has been left in a now unmarked plot in Woodlands Cemetery, Scarborough – a family cemetery where, shockingly, Savile’s grave faces two local schools.
Originally, the twisted TV host, who died five years ago today, was buried with a flashy headstone – reading “It was good while it lasted,”.
But after it was revealed he sexually assaulted hundreds of women and children in a campaign of abuse lasting more than 50 years, undertakers removed the £4,000 stone in the dead of night, and it was sent to landfill.
Savile was also buried at a 45-degree angle so he could ‘see the sea’ – while his gold coffin was filled with gold jewellery, cigars and a Royal Marines green beret.
However, specialists have warned it would take two days to remove his body, as it is surrounded by two-and-a-half tons of reinforced concrete to fend off grave robbers.
Savile’s nephew Guy Marsden said: “It should have been done before his money ran out. I thought it was the end of it when they took the stone away but because he is still buried there it is like the place is cursed.
“Who would want their kids buried somewhere near him? If they want to dig him up and burn him, I could not care less.”
Scarborough councillor Colin Haddington, who is in favour of the exhumation, said: “Unfortunately, it looks as though it will be left as it is and everyone will just have to try to forget about it. Hopefully those affected, those with loved ones buried there, will come to terms with it. Our hands are tied by the funding.”
Meanwhile, locals are furious that there is no money available for the body to be moved – with some even changing their own funeral plans to avoid being laid to rest near the notorious ‘Jim’ll Fix It’ and ‘Top of the Pops’ host.
Julia Fox, 43, whose father rests in the same corner, told the Daily Mail: “I would scatter his ashes in the middle of the road so everyone could drive over him.”
Her husband Greg, 48, added: “Savile should not be buried here with all the respectable people.”
