DONALD Trump has accused officials of rigging the US election by trying to stop the FBI from launching a new probe into emails sent by rival Hillary Clinton.
His latest outburst came after a government source claimed the Justice Department discouraged the FBI because the election was just days away.
The unnamed official said FBI director James Comey acted independently when he dropped a bombshell last Friday by sending members of Congress a letter about the recently discovered emails.
Republican hopeful Trump hit out at a rally in Phoenix, Arizona, yesterday, where the crowd cheered "Lock her up!" at the mention of Democrat Clinton's name.
Billionaire Trump accused the Justice Department of doing everything it could to protect the Democratic nominee in another example of what he claims is a "rigged system".
He said: "Now it's reported that the Department of Justice is fighting with the FBI. That's because the Department of Justice is trying their hardest to protect the criminal activity of Hillary Clinton."
It was not immediately clear what the emails were about or whether they were significant - and the FBI made no guarantees their investigation would be complete by polling day.
