Tory MPs could block disgraced MP Keith Vaz’s plans for new role on Justice Committee
DISGRACED MP Keith Vaz’s shameless plans for a Commons comeback just months after his rent boy scandal could be scuppered after Tories vowed to vote down the appointment.
The vice MP quit as boss of the Commons Home Affairs Committee in September but is seeking a return as a member of the Justice Committee.
Despite facing the prospect of a double probe from Scotland Yard and the Commons sleaze watchdogs, the Leicester East MP wants to oversee law and order.
But last night Tory MP Andrew Bridgen vowed to use a parliamentary vote to block Mr Vaz getting the coveted role.
He told The Sun: “MPs need to know that the world is watching and judging.”
New appointments to Commons Select Committees will be voted on by MPs in a late night session on Monday evening.
Mr Bridgen has informed the Commons Speaker he intends to publicly object to Mr Vaz’s appointment and is urging the House to vote it down.
Mr Vaz threw his hat in the ring to represent Labour on the powerful committee, and remarkably no Labour MP contested him.
MPs usually nod through such appointments, but Mr Vaz’s nomination has sparked uproar.
Explosive undercover footage revealed this summer showed Mr Vaz, 59, with two Eastern European gay escorts at a flat in north-west London.
The newspaper sting also allegedly caught him 'offering' to buy one of the Romanians drugs.
Tory MP Andrew Bridgen added: "By allowing Keith Vaz to go forward for this job unopposed, Labour have shown themselves to be morally bankrupt.
"Why would you allow someone with all this hanging over them to go forward to the Justice Committee.
"Colleagues must think about what sort of message this would send to the public.
"I will be opposing the appointment."
