According to police, the grandmother suffered life-threatening injuries at her home on Heol Fawr.

Despite her family’s hopes she would pull through, the pensioner sadly passed away during the early hours of this morning.

A 55-year-old man – believed to be her son Paul – was also taken to hospital with minor injuries has now been released.

The tragedy was just half a mile from a house where schoolboy Jack Lis died last year.

The 10-year-old was killed by an eight-stone dog nicknamed “Beast”.

Gwent Police arrested four people in connection with the alleged attack two weeks ago.

They are three men aged 20, 25 and 31, and a woman, 28.

They have all been released on conditional bail.

Cops have identified the breed of dog as a large black XL bully cross cane corso breed – which has been seized and put down.

Neighbours said specially trained firearms officers, police and paramedics rushed to the scene where “all hell broke loose”.

One neighbour said: “She’s just a nice old lady who you see walking around.

“Poor thing to suffer like that at her age.”
