The flight attendants, a man and woman, also had a bloody mouth, chipped tooth, swollen face and black eye after last Tuesday's incident.

They were both repeatedly punched in the stomach, arm and face in the unprovoked attack on a flight from Gatwick to Faro, Portugal.

Airport staff grabbed and held the violent passenger before police arrived to arrest her under the wing on the tarmac when they landed.

Some easyJet cabin crew members who were not on the flight have suggested self-defence and pressure point training as a result.

It is thought the passenger may have been drunk on the flight.

A source told The Sun: "It sounded like a proper scrap. This is what cabin crew have to deal with sometimes. They have to put up with some sh*t."

An easyJet spokesman said: "easyJet is aware of this disruptive passenger incident upon landing in Faro, which was extremely distressing for the crew and passengers onboard.

";The police were called to assist the crew in dealing with the incident and arrested the passenger.

"We will not tolerate threatening or violent behaviour towards our crew or passengers, and are doing all possible to support the crew members who were subject to this unacceptable behaviour.

"The safety and wellbeing of our passengers and crew is easyJet’s highest priority."

Portuguese Police said: "Police officers were called to an aircraft in Faro International Airport – Gago Coutinho Airport - due to an occurrence of aggressions.

"At the scene, the commander of the aircraft informed the police officers that a female passenger had attacked two crew members on board.

"The unruly passenger was grabbed and held by airport employees before the arrival of the Police.

"As she was visibly altered and had a meaningless speech she was given immediate assistance and was taken to Faro Hospital, with police escort, where she had further medical assistance.

"The passenger's family was always aware of the situation and on the 21st of December she was discharged from the Hospital.

"The police report was sent to the Prosecutor and the situation is under criminal investigation."

Last month it was revealed a drunk passenger grabbed a flight attendant by her throat after downing a litre bottle of whisky.

Passengers intervened when Colin Smith, 51, tried to hit the easyJet employee, one man putting him in a headlock.

Smith lost it when she told him to stop clambering over other people to get to the toilet as the plane made its descent.
