Paul Hanson, 54, was rushed to hospital but sadly couldn't be saved and was declared dead shortly after.

Police confirmed a 53-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody.

Paul had spent Christmas with his daughter and grandson at the home he shares with wife Teresa just days earlier.

Their daughter Sherri had posted beaming photos online with the caption: "We've had the best day today with family".

It is understood the dad-of-two was a site manager at Sword Construction UK.

One neighbour said: “Paul and Teresa had lived there for about five years.

“We didn’t know them particularly well but they were always friendly and polite.

“Paul was a bit more reserved but Teresa was quite chatty. They seemed quite placid to be honest.

“It looked like they had a lovely Christmas. They must have had all the family around because there were lots of cars parked outside.

“The last time I saw Paul was about 11.30 yesterday morning when he went out in the van. He came back 25 minutes later with a bit of shopping and that’s the last I saw of him.”

Paul's family are now being supported by specially trained officers.

Police confirmed he and the suspect were known to each other and are not looking for anyone else in connection with the horror.

Detective Chief Inspector Nicola Burnett said: “We understand that news of a tragic incident such as this will cause shock and concern to people in the village and surrounding areas.

"However, I wish to reassure people that this was an isolated incident between people who were known to each other and, as such, there is no wider risk to members of the public.

“Officers will remain in West Cowick over the coming days whilst we continue with our investigation, and a scene guard will remain in place.

"Please come to talk to us if you have any concerns, or information that may assist with our enquiries."

Anyone with information can call police on 101 quoting log 435 of 28 December.
