Aldi launches £30 record player for hard-up hipsters – £20 cheaper than Lidl’s turntable in budget supermarket price war
Budget German supermarkets Aldi and Lidl both have decks appeal as vinyl surges in popularity

ALDI entered a turntable price wa today as it launched a record player for just £29.99 in time for Christmas.
It comes days after rival budget supermarket Lidl unveiled a £50 turntable.
Lidl's all-in-one ION player includes built-in speakers and an amp, so hard-up hipsters do not have to fork out for expensive audio gear to play trendy vinyl discs.
It also has a headphone jack and a USB port so you can rip vinyl records straight to MP3 format.
The stylish ION deck, in a natural wood finish, went on sale on October 30 and is available while stocks last.
But today Aldi upped the ante by announcing its own vintage-style turntable will go on sale on November 24 - and will be £20 cheaper.
It comes in a handy suitcase design and, like Lidl's player, has its own speakers but can easily be hooked up to external audio equipment.
Both turntables allow vinyl buffs to play their discs at 33 rpm, 45 rpm or 78 rpm.

Vinyl has seen a huge surge in popularity after being practically killed off by cassettes and CDs.
And it is no longer the reserve of retro-loving hipsters as major chains including Sainsbury's and Tesco stocking vinyl.
In March Sainsbury's became the biggest vinyl retailer on the high street after adding eighteen vinyl releases to the shelves of 171 of its supermarkets.
However, a recent poll by ICM revealed that 48 per cent of people who buy vinyl don't listen to their records, and 7 per cent do not even own a turntable.
