The dramatic footage captures just a part of what witnesses have described as a "disaster", with one man thrown "10ft into the air".

The footage also shows an individual pushed along the ground, although it is unclear if they were hit by the car, a black Hyundai, or had been rushing to take cover.

Four people were injured in the freak incident at Humberstone Gate in Leicester's city centre.

The carnage was initially described to the Sun Online by stunned onlooker  Dr Beejay Bhatt, who said the car was "barrelling down the road" before it mounted the kerb and careered into the group of people waiting for a bus home.

He said: "People had just been forced to jump out of the way, literally diving out of the way, screaming."
