Families of Chennai Six appeal to Prime Minister to free war heroes jailed in India for crime they didn’t commit
Mrs May will visit India for trade talks next week and says she will raise the matter
RELATIVES of the Chennai Six yesterday made a live television appeal begging Theresa May to help free them.
The former servicemen are in jail in India for having guns on an anti-piracy ship.
Their families appeared on BBC2’s Victoria Derbyshire show to plead with the PM to secure their release when she visits the country for trade talks next week.
Lisa Dunn, sister of Nick Dunn, 30, of Ashington, Northumberland, said: “We beg Theresa May to not miss the opportunity to raise this at the highest level.”
The Brits were arrested by Indian coastguards while working as maritime security guards in 2013.
They got five years in January despite having UK government gun permits.
The Sun is campaigning to get them home for Christmas.
The Foreign Office said the PM will raise the matter.
