Theresa May shows no love is lost with Tory rival George Osborne as she dresses up in high-vis to accept award
The former Chancellor was frequently photographed in fluorescent kit with a hard hat
THERESA May showed her sense of humour last night by wearing a high-vis jacket to accept an award from George Osborne.
The Prime Minister poked fun at the former chancellor who was frequently photographed in fluorescent kit with a hard hat.
He handed over the Politician of the Year award to his Tory rival - who famously left him out of her cabinet after taking over from David Cameron as PM.
Mrs May also donned Osborne’s iconic white headwear when he handed her the certificate from The Spectator magazine.
One of the first times the MP for Tatton was spotted in his favourite kit was during a visit to the Jaguar Land Rover plant in Solihull.
It then became a running joke as he was increasingly seen in yellow, orange and even blue jackets throughout his reign as Chancellor of the Exchequer.
He insisted on wearing the gear over his smart navy suit which always added comical value and served as a stark reminder of how out of place he was on a building site.
In deciding to award Mrs May, the judges commented: “She says she doesn’t treat politics as a game, but she just happens to be rather good at it. As she might put it: winning means winning.”
