A FURIOUS husband bit his wife's nose off as she refused to return home and pay him a dowry.
Raj Kumari's was left horrifically disfigured after her ex-partner Shiv Prasad's savage attack.
They married two years ago but after they broke up Shiv, 23, kept asking for a luxury dowry from her family, namely £1,800 and a motorbike.
He carried on harassing her when she moved to live with her parents in Lakhimpur Kheri, in northern India.
Raj said: "My husband and in-laws tortured me for a dowry since the moment we were married.
"They asked for a huge amount and a luxury motorbike , which my family could never afford.
"They used to physically attack me and they wouldn’t stop reminding me of it.
"‘When they stopped me doing my studies I returned home. I refused to go back with him, as I would have missed out on my studies.
"But this is what he did when I refused to return with him."
Shiv grabbed and lunged at her face as she walked to class on Tuesday.
She was rushed to a medical clinic after the shocking attack.
Emergency Medical Officer Dr Surjit Kumar Singh, at the district hospital said: "The girl has lost a portion of her nose and once she has recovered she will need to be checked by the ENT specialist.
"The wound will take time to heal but her nose will never be normal again and she will not look like she did before. She will need cosmetic surgery but it’s a costly affair."
Police arrested Mr Kumar, a labourer, at his home on the same day.
Inspector Ashok Kumar Singh, from Gola Police Station, said: "The accused has said he did not like the way his wife dressed for her classes.
"But she was wearing formal attire like trousers, shirt and tie when he attacked her.
"He said he attacked her because she refused to return home with him.
"We are also investigating the dowry and harassment claims and we will take action accordingly."
