Family of missing RAF man Corrie Mckeague blast police for ‘failing to follow up leads’

THE UNCLE of missing RAF serviceman Corrie Mckeague has blasted police for the way they have conducted their search for his nephew.

Corrie, 23, has been missing for more than a month and was last seen at around 3.25am on September 24 following a night out in Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk.

His uncle, Tony Wringe, has accused Suffolk Police of withholding information from the family, including his mum Nicola Urquhart, a serving police officer, and failing to follow up a number of leads.

This includes the decision not to search a landfill site in Barton Mills where Corrie's phone was traced.

A bin lorry, which was in the exact area that Corrie was last seen also made the journey from Bury to Barton Mills, within a few minutes of Corrie’s phone arriving.

He added: "It is our summary that Corrie has disappeared against his will, a third party is involved.

"There are numerous leads that have not been followed up and evidence that has not been effectively processed."

The member of RAF Regiment 2 Squadron was reported missing when he failed to turn up at RAF Honington in Suffolk.

It is believed he tried walk the ten miles back to the base when he vanished.

His disappearance sparked a huge search process which is ongoing involving volunteers and police officers who looked for Corrie along A-roads, ditches and waterways.

A Suffolk Police spokeswoman said on Thursday: "A large amount of work has been carried out behind the scenes, however at this stage there is still not a clear line of inquiry as to what may have happened to him and officers continue to look at - and investigate - all possibilities.

"We are aware that we can't provide the answers that Corrie's family need, but police are continuing work to find Corrie."
