HEAT BILL
Making UK ready for extreme heat & flooding ‘could cost at least £10bn a year’
MAKING Britain ready for extreme heat and flooding could cost at least £10billion a year, a major new report warns.
Getting the nation's houses, transport system and flood defences ready for higher temperatures will cost huge amounts of money, the Climate Change Committee admits.
But they say the bill will balloon even further unless ministers start now.
Ministers are accused of not setting out plans to adapt to the changing climate and not making it a proper priority.
Banks and investors should start drumming up strategies to raise the cash now, they say.
And they want the Office for Budget Responsibility to look at how climate change will affect the UK's public finances and what risks it could bring.
