FA President Prince William urged to act over Fifa’s poppy ban scandal

PRINCE William should join the fight to end Fifa’s shameful poppy ban, military veterans said last night.

They want Wills, president of our FA, to use his influence so England and Scotland stars can pay tribute with the emblem on their shirts during their match on Armistice Day this Friday.

The FA has so far said it will provide only black armbands with poppies at Wembley.

Ex-Lance Corporal Gary Weaving, 37, said: “There should  be no compromise. Prince Harry is well placed to put our argument forward and if our royals aren’t going to fight for us, who is?”

Barry Martin, 40, a former Guardsman, said: “It would be great if Prince William could put himself forward. Fifa’s judgment is an absolute disgrace.”

Geoff Edwards, 58, who was in the Royal Corps of Transport, said: “I fully support Prince William getting involved. Fifa wouldn’t even exist if people hadn’t given up their lives.”

Fifa says the poppy falls foul of its ban on “political” messages.
