Ukraine vows to end war with Russia by parking its tanks in Moscow’s Red Square

UKRAINE has vowed to end the war with Russia by parking its tanks on Moscow’s Red Square.

Kyiv’s security chief said it would be justice for Vladimir Putin’s invasion.

National Security and Defence Council boss Oleksiy Danilov also described the Russian president as “Hitler’s twin”.

Speaking ahead of the first anniversary of the invasion, Danilov said: “Our tanks will be on Red Square and that will be justice.

“We didn’t start this war. We didn’t call them here.

“They invaded our territory, killed our women, our children, the elderly and civilians.

“If we don’t give them a proper answer it is only a matter of time before they invade another country.”

Officially Kyiv’s war aims are to expel all Russian forces from Ukrainian soil — as defined by its 1991 borders.

In an exclusive interview with The Sun, in his heavily guarded Kyiv compound, Danilov said Russia was destined to self-destruct.

He said: “Putin will go down in history as the man who destroyed Russia.

“My greatest concern for the next 12 months is that the West does not understand that Russia will be fragmented.

“It is inevitable. It is like a volcano erupting.

“The process has already started and it cannot be stopped.”

He said despot Putin was “Hitler’s twin” who would likely die in a bunker like the Nazi leader, who took his own life as the allies closed in on Berlin.

He also claimed the Kremlin was plotting to carve up Ukraine like North and South Korea to present Russia with the illusion of victory.

Kyiv fears that wobbly allies might lose heart in that situation and pressure Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky to give up ground for peace.

Britain has vowed to give Ukraine all the help it needs and has led a dozen allies by pledging its Challenger 2 tanks to Ukraine.

And Danilov heaped praise on Britain for standing up to Russia.

He said an incident in 2021, when Royal Navy destroyer HMS Defender sailed past Crimea provoking a furious military response from Putin, proved Britain was ready to “defend international law”.

Danilov said: “God blesses the fearless. If more ships had sailed that course, perhaps this war would never have started.”

Warning proof of ambition

PRESIDENT Volodymyr Zelensky is crystal clear — he wants Russia out of all of Ukraine. He doesn’t want to overrun Moscow.

Ukraine’s western backers are also clear — they would never risk a nuclear war by supporting a land invasion of Russia.

Kyiv’s goal is to restore its territorial integrity as defined by its 1991 borders, when it gained independence from the USSR.

But Oleksiy Danilov’s claim that tanks will end up on Red Square is a sign that Kyiv will never settle for another Russian carve-up.

His bombast is proof of Ukraine’s confidence and ambition.

The last thing Ukraine wants is a stalemate that leads to an awkward peace, like in 2014.

It is only a chance for one side to buy time before launching another offensive.
