A FURIOUS dad bundled his wife into his car boot and drove her to woodland after she confessed to ‘doing wrong’ on a night out.

She ran out of the house terrified but neighbours saw him chase her down the street before forcing her into the boot of his car.

At Hull Crown Court yesterday Judge Jeremy Richardson took the rare step of sparing 29-year-old Nicholson jail,.

The judge told Nicholson, of Bridlington, East Yorks: "It is unusual for a case like this to warrant a suspended sentence.

";This was an unhappy episode of a family man and someone described as an excellent father taking leave of his senses.

"The crime of kidnapping is a serious matter. Your conduct was disgraceful and you should be completely ashamed of yourself.

"You have no previous convictions and no history of problems.

"You were incensed by an episode I won't go into in this court. But instead of just being angry and upset, which you were entitled to be, you took leave of your senses."

John Thackray, prosecuting, told the court Nicholson's partner of seven years, returned home on the morning of August 14, after a night out, and admitted some 'wrongdoing'.

Mr Thackray said: "The defendant lost his temper and became violent. She got scared and ran.

"A neighbour saw the defendant chase her and then bundle her into the boot of his car.

"The police were alerted and carried out a search. The defendant had driven into the country in Flamborough where he left his wife before coming back to pick her up. He later was arrested."

Nicholson had been on remand in custody since his arrest in August.

Judge Richardson said: "If this had gone to trial you could have been sentenced to at least three years in prison.

"You have already served a significant period on remand. It cannot have been pleasant for you but it will have given you time to reflect.

"Your wife did not want to give a statement against you and is very desirous to sort out the marriage. She wants to put this behind her.

"You need to try and get your marriage back on track and think about your children."

Nicholson was handed an 18-month prison sentence, suspended for two years, for kidnap. He also admitted failing to provide a specimen and was banned from driving for 12 months.
