Beloved gorilla killed at Cincinnati Zoo receives ‘15,000 votes for the presidency’ when pranksters scrawl dead ape’s name on ballot forms
Disgruntled voters have posted pictures of their spoiled ballots on social media
A STAGGERING 15,000 Americans have reportedly voted for dead gorilla Harambe in the most divisive presidential election in living memory.
Following the news that Donald Trump had beaten Hillary Clinton in the race for the White House, social media users began boasting that they spoiled their ballots with the late beast’s name.
Harambe was controversially shot and killed at Cincinnati Zoo when a toddler crawled into its enclosure in May
US journalist David Leavitt reports that up to 11,000 disgruntled Americans voted for the wild animal instead of choosing either of the two main party candidates.
There are other reports that the figure may be as high as 15, 000 votes – although there is no way of knowing the exact number.

One user even tweeted a picture of his ballot boasting of his protest vote.
The post read: “I voted for harambe #ElectionNight #myvote2016.”
However, the news has been slammed by many online users.
One commentor tweeted: “Shout out to the 11,000 people that voted for Harambe. It's officially not funny anymore.”
Another posted: “I don't think the outcome of the election was the biggest joke but rather the 15,000+ people who voted for Harambe.”
There are 32 states in total which allow a space for ‘write-ins’ below the names of the official candidates.
Other posters have tweeted their own spoiled ballots featuring the likes of One Direction singer Harry Styles and Presidential debate hero Ken Bone.
