NIGE UPSET VOW

Nigel Farage warns of more ‘political shocks’ to come after Donald Trump’s success

Outgoing Ukip chief says the world was witnessing the end of 'big business and big politics controlling our lives'

NIGEL FARAGE told the world to expect more “political shocks for years to come” as the Donald Trump cheerleader lapped up the Republican’s shock success.

The Ukip chief – who was due to fly out to the US today – said the world was witnessing the end of a period of “big business and big politics controlling our lives”.

And he declared Brexit Britain stood to benefit as we “now have a President who likes our country”.

The comments came as Ukip dismissed speculation he could now work for the 70 year-old – after appearing on the campaign trail with the President Elect in August.

The Ukip leader is due to make a speech in Florida on Friday and hopes to meet Mr Trump at the weekend in New York.

He has previously said Donald Trump’s administration would need a “proper Eurosceptic ambassador” in Brussels.

Mr Farage and key donor Arron Banks both repeatedly predicted Mr Trump would beat Hillary Clinton.

In his statement, Mr Farage said: “Today, the establishment is in deep shock.

“Even more so than after Brexit. Voters across the Western world want nation state democracy, proper border controls and to be in charge of their own lives.

“I commend Donald Trump for the courage with which he has fought this campaign and I look forward to a closer relationship between the USA and the UK.

“Prepare for further political shocks in the years to come.”

Throughout the campaign Mr Trump kept referring to Brexit as a source of inspiration.

Mr Farage publicly endorsed the billionaire at a campaign rally in Mississippi, saying he wouldn’t vote for Hillary Clinton “if you paid me”.

At a London event last week Arron Banks vowed that Donald Trump would win.

He claimed anywhere between 15 million Americans who had never voted before could back the Republican and his own polling suggested it.

Yesterday the brash businessman said: “I am delighted for the American people for having chosen their own Nigel Farage as US President.

“First there was Brexit, now the Americans have got one up on us by putting one of their own at the top of government. Just as they have learned from us, we can learn from them and sort Westminster out once and for all.”

He added: “The EU Referendum has triggered global change. We as British voters can be proud for having set in motion such events. Many others are now playing to our tune, long may it continue.”
