ISIS jihadists ‘crucifying’ innocent civilians in Mosul as noose tightens on the depraved terror group
Iraqi army and Kurdish Peshmerga forces are slowly closing in on the country's third-largest city
SICK ISIS jihadists have crucified at least 20 civilians as they try to fend off the onslaught on Mosul.
The embattled group is desperately clinging on to the Iraqi city of 1.5million.
And details from the city reveal how ultra-hardline Islamists are patrolling the streets and executing locals suspected of passing information to the approaching forces.
The methods are believed to be a depraved bid to terrify the local population as the group desperately tries to keep a toehold in Iraq.
Residents reported seeing locals hanging from telephone pylons after being executed.
One told Reuters: "I saw five corpses of young men which had been crucified at a road junction in east Mosul.
"The Daesh people hung the bodies out and said that these were agents passing news to the infidel forces and apostates."
Strict religious police continue to terrorise the population over the smallest details in their appearance despite the battle for the city.
Another resident described the reality of having clothes and beards inspected by ultra-strict jihadist.
He said: "I went out in my car for the first time since the start of the clashes in the eastern districts.
"I saw some of the Hisba elements of ISIS checking people's beards and clothes and looking for smokers.
"It looks like they want to prove their presence."
Kurdish Peshmerga forces and the Iraqi Army are slowly fighting their way into the country's second city.
But fears are growing that the city's liberation could take weeks or even months after the terror group's stiff resistance.
