Cops continue to probe rape claims of Oxford girl, 14, after investigation shows she was not abducted before the attack

POLICE are continuing their investigations into the rape of a 14-year-old girl after discovering she was not kidnapped beforehand.

Police were initially investigating claims that the young woman had been bundled into a silver car before being raped in September but have revealed they no longer believe the reported abduction took place.

But cops said they were still taking the girl's claims of sexual assault seriously.

Thames Valley Police released a statement, saying: "Following the report of an abduction and rape in Summertown, Oxford, on Wednesday 28 September, Thames Valley Police’s Major Crime Unit launched an investigation.

"A 14-year-old girl reported that she was taken from the street while walking on her way to school by two men in a silver car at around 8.25am, and then raped."

Police added: "We can confirm that the evidence gathered indicates that the reported abduction did not take place."

Thames Valley Police are now following "all lines of enquiries" to establish what happened.

In a statement, police said: "Specially trained officers and staff from the police, Oxfordshire County Council Children’s Services and other agencies continue to work with the victim, at her pace."

Police then thanked those who had come forward with information.

Police Commander for Oxford City, Supt Joe Kidman said: “This incident has understandably caused a great deal of community concern.

"The safety advice I have issued with Oxfordshire County Council is good general safety advice, and a common sense approach should be applied at parents and carers discretion. You know your children and your area.

"Oxford remains a safe city for everyone to live, work, study and visit. Attacks such as initially reported are mercifully rare and will always be treated extremely seriously and thoroughly investigated."

Supt Kidman added: "In the weeks after the incident higher visibility patrols were in place to provide reassurance and gather information. We have worked with schools in the area on their security plans and are ready to respond to concerns raised.

"Working with vulnerable and young victims is an extremely complex and lengthy process and it is paramount that they are protected appropriately."

The news comes after the girl stumbled into a quiet residential cul-de-sac less than two miles away, in Marston, Oxford, at midday following a horrific ordeal.

She then knocked on a door for help.

Police had been told the young girl had not turned up for class at 8.45am.
