With the fuel giants refusing to stop ripping Britain off, the Government must use force

It is scandalous that the petrol prices which have crept up this year are still being kept high even though the wholesale cost has been falling for a fortnight.

ENOUGH is enough. Since the fuel giants and energy firms won’t stop ripping Britain off, the Government must force their hand.

Motorists have not witnessed a drop at the pump - even though wholesale prices have fallen

It’s always the same story.

Prices shoot up like a rocket and fall like a feather, if they fall at all.

We like MPs’  new “Pumpwatch” idea to keep suppliers honest. Chancellor Philip Hammond should give it the nod in his upcoming Autumn Statement.

He must also finally take the Big Six energy firms in hand too. The Government has been warning them since the summer about fleecing loyal customers, stuck on high and complex tariffs.

They’re not listening.

It is time they were forced to put ALL customers on the sort of low rates currently enjoyed only by those clued-up enough to switch suppliers. That’s just the start.

The culture of greed that makes fortunes from the poorest in Britain must end.

Lib Dem leader Tim Farron's plans have been scuppered by Labour peers who will not join his plot to defeat Brexit

PIPSQUEAK  Lib Dem leader Tim Farron has no chance of scuppering Article 50 in the Commons.

Even Jeremy Corbyn’s lot have realised it’s electoral suicide to defy the majority vote in the referendum.

But Farron’s decision to oppose it unless we also get a SECOND referendum on the final deal is breathtakingly cynical and disingenuous. He wants another vote solely to overturn the first.

It is a recipe for chaos and ruin. But such details won’t bother Farron. His is a grubbily opportunistic attempt to hoover up disconsolate Remain voters.

With only eight MPs left, he’s a drowning man clinging to anything that floats.

But this, like so many of predecessor Nick Clegg’s decisions, is an epic miscalculation. Liberal “Democrats” won’t win seats by betraying democracy.

Theresa May should end this tedious manoeuvring and bring forward a simple Article 50 Bill as soon as possible.

If Farron’s many peers try to vote it down, they’ll be signing a suicide note for the unelected House of Lords.

LEFTIES see hate everywhere since Brexit and Donald Trump’s election — but not their own.

It doesn’t count, you see, if directed at the “right” targets. But this bile they spit at anyone they disagree with is partly  causing their repeated election defeats.

One British journalist has even called, via Twitter, for Trump’s assassination.

If we’re charitable we can blame social media, which entices lefties into ramping up their virtue-signalling until they completely lose the plot.

But, given their outrage at any threats to left-wing politicians, the hypocrisy stinks.
