Facebook slams hipster shops for selling jars of ‘100% Genuine British Rain’ for £3.99
FACEBOOK users have slammed London hipster souvenir shops for selling bottles of “100% Genuine British Rain” for £3.99.
Creative agency Leo Burnett – which specialises in advertising, social media and direct marketing – created the product for keen tourists sick of sunshine, and homesick expats looking for a wet reminder of home.
The firm is advertising the product with the tag line: “The only British souvenir they can’t make in China.
“*Bottle made in China.”
Social media users have come out in droves to slam the idea.
One Facebook user shared a snap of the bottles of rain on sale in a store, captioning it: “They actually sell bottled rain in the shops! Wtf?? Who thinks up this s***?”
Another disillusioned friend replied: “Does not surprise me. They sell air in jars in Cornwall.”
Meanwhile, writing on Twitter, one user questioned the product’s existence: “Genius or plain right weird?
"Discovered 100% genuine bottled British Rain at @CarnabyLondon.”
Replying to the tweet, stockist We Built This City’s official account said: “Genius, of course!”
In an interview with , the man behind the concept, Ben Gough, said Britain needs to embrace the things it is renowned for.
He reasoned: “We moan about Britain’s iconic rainy weather.
“But I say embrace it. It’s a famous part of our heritage and culture.
“Tourists actually expect it.
