Mum-of-two Amanda, 45, said: “It is heartbreaking to think of kids in the UK and abroad in need this winter.

“I’m pleased to back The Sun on Sunday’s Knit A Kid A Blanket campaign because there are so many children both in this country and abroad who suffer every day.

“I would urge all the knitters out there to make a blanket — it is a wonderful way to help.”

The blankets will be helpd to keep child refugees, who face a daily battle to find food and shelter, warm

In disaster-hit parts of the world, many little ones are without mums and dads and facing a harsh winter.

And here in the UK, there are thousands of children who would love a special present of their own this Christmas.

We are asking our readers to knit 6ft by 4ft blankets for vulnerable children in Europe’s poorest countries, including Moldova, Ukraine, Romania and Hungary, as well as for child refugees and orphans in Syria.

Some blankets will be given to the thousands of vulnerable UK children.

We are working with Operation Orphan, which runs the Keep A Child Warm project, and the charity Loving Hands, which gives blankets to needy kids worldwide.

Operation Orphan co-founder Brad Moore said: “It is brilliant to think we can help save lives with blankets knitted by your readers.
