Theresa May charmed Donald Trump in ‘very nice’ phone call congratulating President-elect on win

President Elect told Nigel Farage May was 'polite and very nice' in first diplomatic phone call when they met last week

Theresa May wants to be Donald's pal too

THERESA May charmed Donald Trump when the pair spoke on the phone last week, The Sun can reveal.

The President Elect told Nigel Farage that the PM was "polite and very nice" during their first exchange on Thursday.

But negative comments about Mr Trump made by Mrs May's most senior advisers were also discussed during Saturday's New York meeting between Mr Farage and the new President's top team.

A source inside the meetings at the billionaire property tycoon's Trump Tower penthouse said “they were fully aware of the nastiness.”

But they added: “Donald said he enjoyed talking to May and Nigel bigged her up, telling him he could do business with her. Nigel was actually hugely complimentary and positive.”

Another source added: “Mr Trump said that they had a very nice call, it's a shame the No10 aides have wrecked it all.

“Nigel made it very clear that Theresa May was not the problem but school kid advisers at No10.”

After Donald Trump’s shock election victory last week it was revealed Mrs May's top aide Fiona Hill had publicly branded the business mogul "a chump".

Joint No10 Chiefs of Staffs Nick Timothy and Fiona Hill both tweeted insults about the President Elect as recently as this spring, with powerful Mr Timothy claiming “I don’t want any ‘reaching out’ to Trump”.

In March Mr Timothy said Mr Trump’s rise was “depressing” and month later he shared a tweet describing him as a racist.

But No10 are now frantically trying to build bridges with the new White House administration.

On Thursday President Elect Trump said he would be honoured to host Mrs May in Washington DC, and it is highly likely both of her senior aides would travel with the PM to the US for any meeting.

Yesterday Mr Farage said: "I would say that some of the noises about Trump coming out from the children advising Theresa May are so juvenile, Downing Street should be having a constructive conversation."

After serving as Mrs May's Home Office adviser, Nick Timothy masterminded the Conservatives' successful Thanet South campaign in 2015 that deprived Mr Farage of a Commons seat.
