BRITS can look forward to an egg-cellent Easter bank holiday with sunshine on the way.

The Met Office has forecast dry conditions with bright sunny spells for most areas on Saturday, thanks to a band of high pressure.

Parts of the far west though could see some thicker cloud which may bring patchy light rain in some areas.

The sunshine is expected to continue into Sunday and Easter Monday although the forecaster warns there could be a chance some rain and strong winds could come in from the west.

The Met Office's deputy chief meteorologist Helen Caughey said: “It will be drier by the start of the Easter break, with bright, clear spells and light winds in most places.

“Although there will be some chilly nights it will be pleasant by day with sunny spells and some light winds, though on paper temperatures will be around average for the time of year.

“While there is still some uncertainty in the detailed forecast for Easter Sunday and Monday the general trend is for fine weather in the south and east while it looks like it could turn more unsettled in the north and west. Fairly typical spring weather for us.”

Looking further ahead into mid-April, a spell of unsettled weather is predicted which will bring spells of wetter and windier weather more widely across the UK.

Temperatures are expected to be near normal or even slightly above but the Met predicts these could drop quickly under any clear skies after dark, which could bring some overnight frost.

Today, most areas will be dry with lots of sunshine after getting off to a cold start.

It should feel warm by the afternoon.

Western areas are expected to be cloudier at times while in the northwest it will be breezy with some occasional, patchy rain which will become more persistent later on.

Overnight, it will be dry for most areas but will slowly cloud over while the northwest will get outbreaks of rain and some breeze.

Rain will move across the west and north on Wednesday which will hit most areas by the evening, apart from the southeast.

The rain is expected to clear up in eastern parts on Thursday morning bringing in some sunshine but rain is then expected later on which could become heavy for some.

Good Friday is due to become drier although there could be some overnight frost.
