Brit dad drowned on lads’ holiday in Greece after being chased into sea by violent muscle-bound bouncer

Danny Kelly's family are now launching legal action to extradite doorman Nikola Miscevic from Serbia to face a Greek court

A BRITISH holidaymaker drowned off the Greek island of Zante after he was chased into the sea by a muscle bound brute, an inquest ruled today.

Terrified Danny Kelly, 23, ran into the waves after he was confronted by violent Serbian bouncer Nikola Miscevic, 32, during a late-night beach party last August.

The dad-of-two swam for his life but was pelted with rocks thrown by Miscevic and then suddenly vanished from view.

His body was found a day later.

Danny's friend Martin Spencer, 30, said he saw his pal being being chased towards the jetty by Miscevic moments after he told him: "We have to go."

He told the inquest: "Danny was on the shore running towards the water, he was being chased.

"He was running at full pelt and ran into the sea."

Miscevic, employed as security for the popular event, stopped at the shoreline and began throwing fist-sized rocks from the beach at Danny.

Mr Spencer added: "He was throwing them hard and throwing a lot - one after another after another.

"He was aggressive and screaming at him.

"I could tell by the force that he meant ill by it.";

He said he could hear his friend pleading from the water ‘I haven’t done anything’, but Miscevic kept throwing the rocks.

Danny, from Keighley, West Yorks., tried to swim around a large boulder to dodge the rocks and finally clung to a buoy as Mr Spencer began filming Miscevic.

But Miscevic grabbed his phone, punched him in the back of the head and threw him to the floor, the hearing in Bradford, West Yorks, heard.

Mr Spencer tried to locate Danny, who worked as a fabricator, before calling cops.

He later positively identified Miscevic at the police station.

But in a shocking development bungling Greek cops forgot to seize Miscevic's passport and he fled back to Serbia days later.

Danny's family are now launching legal action in the Greek courts to extradite Miscevic to face justice.

Coroner Martin Fleming recorded a verdict of ‘unlawful killing’ and said there was a direct link between Danny's death and Miscevic's behaviour.

Mr Fleming said: "Danny was directly chased into the sea and no attempt to rescue him was made.

"The only reason Danny entered the sea was to take refuge from his attacker."

Outside court Danny’s mum Colette Kelly, 42, said: "This verdict is what we had hoped for.

"We need to get in touch with our Greek solicitor to keep pushing for Miscevic to be extradited.

"While we have a coat on our backs we won’t stop.

"Hopefully, now the full facts of this incident are out there we will get justice for Danny and in doing so stop this terrible nightmare happening to another family.

"We will not give up the fight until we have justice for Danny."

His stepdad Tom Gallon said: "Hopefully this gives us a bit more sway to press the Greek authorities as well.

"We want the Greek authorities to take some action now, bring up charges against Miscevic.

"We think he is back in Serbia now but he is beyond the law there, unless he goes back to Greece."
